The official ACLS course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient. The overall goal of the course is to improve the quality of care provided to patients who suffer a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergency. Students enhance their skills in the treatment of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest patients through active participation in a series of planned simulated cardiac and respiratory emergency scenarios, which are designed to reinforce the core concepts of emergency cardiovascular care. ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.
